THE STAGS LEAP DISTRICT, an official appellation within Napa Valley, begins seven
miles north of the town of Napa, on the Silverado Trail. Its northern boundary is drawn by the
Yountville Cross Road. Barely a mile wide and three miles long, the District is bounded by rocky
hillsides to the east and the Napa River to the west. A jagged outcropping of towering palisades
and the legend of a nimble stag inspired the Stags Leap name over 100 years ago.
Today, the Stags Leap District Winegrowers is an alliance of wineries and grape growers
committed to educating the wine trade and enthusiasts alike about the appellation's unique
conditions of soil, climate and exposure that are reflected in the excellence of its wines. Cool
Pacific breezes, long, dry summer days and unique volcanic soils with overlays of bale loam,
produce wines of power and grace with complex layers of flavor. Comprised of only 2,700
acres, with approximately 1,200 planted, the Stags Leap District is known worldwide for its
Cabernet Sauvignon. In fact, the District is comprised of over 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and
upwards of 90% with red Bordeaux blending varietals included.
The Stags Leap District wineries have enhanced the guest experience by providing new and
exciting tastings and tours. As one of Napa Valley's smallest appellations, visitors can navigate
easily through the District and sample its world-renown wines. From intimate cave tours to
sophisticated educational programs, visitors will have an unforgettable experience!

Situated directly below the home of owner's Brian Malk
and Nancy Heitel, Malk Family Vineyard lies adjacent to the
Fay Vineyard at the base of the palisades, edging the
valley floor on the eastern slopes of the Stags Leap District.
Surrounded by a mixture of live oak and black oak trees,
the vineyard property begins with a gentle slope at the base,
rising dramatically to the Palisades in the background. The
vines on this two acre vineyard are bilateral cordon and
unilaterally trained on a vertical trellis system. The property was purchased in 1997 and is farmed with meticulous,
hands-on care. Winemaker Robbie Meyer mandates that
low yields and a philosophy to produce as a "winegrower",
ensure the fruit is of the highest quality from vintage to
vintage. Malk Family Vineyards is not currently open for public
wine tastings.
